Here are five reasons why the opposition won:

1: Harder to rig
Past elections have been marred by serious irregularities and suspicions of rigging. In 2007 observers said the presidential poll was not "credible". In 2011 the vote was considered to be better run but observers said that rigging and fraud still took place.

This time the electoral commission took more steps to prevent rigging, including new biometric voters cards.
Also President Jonathan's party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP), had lost control of some key states which meant it could not control the electoral process there.

2: Boko Haram and security
The Nigerian army has made some recent gains against Boko Haram, but not enough to convince Nigerians
The election took place against the background of an Islamist insurgency in the north-east of the country. The Boko Haram militant group has killed 20,000 people and forced some three million others from their homes and President Jonathan was criticised for not getting to grips with this.
The poll was delayed for six weeks to give time for the security situation to improve, but even though most areas controlled by Boko Haram were recaptured, it seems to have come too late for many people.

3: United opposition, crumbling PDP
The extra six weeks of vigorous campaigning by the PDP was not enough to halt the slide in the party's fortunes
The PDP has been described as an election-winning machine. When it was created it united a northern elite with leading politicians from the south, but that alliance has broken up and the party lost some key figures. Even former President Olusegun Obasanjo came out against Mr Jonathan.
At the same time, the opposition managed to unite under the All Progressives Congress (APC) banner. The last six weeks of desperate and dirty campaigning, in which the APC responded in kind, was not enough to turn the tide.

4: Economy
Nigeria's economy is growing but the wealth is not being spread around
Nigeria is Africa's biggest oil producer and its largest economy, but many fail to feel the benefits with nearly half the population living below the poverty line. Continued corruption is seen as partly being to blame.
National income is due to grow by more than 5% this year and next year, but people did not seem in the mood to thank Mr Jonathan for this.

5: Time for a change
APC supporters chanted "change" wherever they went and it seems to have caught the mood. The PDP has been in power since the end of military rule in 1999, and 2015 is the year that Nigerians decided that someone else should have a go at sorting things out.

President-elect Buhari now has to prove he really can change things.

Yvonne Nelson Dreamt About The Germanwing Plane Crash

Top Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson, might as well pass for a new generation prophet. The talented actress cum producer said she received a very disturbing revelation about a plane crash, barely a week before the Germanwing Airbus A320 crashed.
Among a series of
messages the actress posted on her Instagram page, she disclosed a screenshot of her chat with one of her friends, in which she confides in her about a ‘bad’ dream she had had involving two airlines, Aero Lufthansa and Starbow.
According to the conversation, which was held last Wednesday, March 17, a worried Yvonne interceded on behalf of the airlines after the dream. She also tweeted about her dream and urged
her fans to pray.
However, on Tuesday March 24, a Germanwings Airbus A320 which is owned by airliners Lufthansa, and travelling between Barcelona and Duesseldorf, crashed in the French Alps near Digne, killing all 150 people on board.
The victims are believed to include 67 Germans, 45 Spanish citizens and three Americans.
Meanwhile, the co-pilot of the Germanwings flight that crashed in the French Alps, named as Andreas Lubitz, appeared to want to “destroy the plane”, officials said.
Marseille prosecutor Brice Robin, citing information from the “black box” voice recorder, said the co-pilot was alone in the cockpit.
He intentionally started a descent while the pilot was locked out.
Mr Robin said there was “absolute silence in the cockpit” as the pilot fought to re-enter it.
He said air traffic controllers made repeated attempts to contact the aircraft, but to no avail. Passengers could be heard screaming just before the crash, he added.

Minister of Niger Delta, accused Jega of being partisan and in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and leaking the election result to the opposition party.

A fan of his had created his profile on the internet and wrote that the singer hails from Kaduna, a state in the northern part of Nigeria, but Skales disclosed that he is not from that state, noting that he was only born and raised

Skales revealed that he is actually from Edo state, South-South Nigeria.

2015: Veteran Actress, Ngozi Nwosu Warns Nigerians Against Violence

Veteran actress, Ngozi Nwosu survived a kidney related illness few years ago, is obviously back on her feet. She recently voiced out her fears on the tension raised by the on-going collation of results of the presidential election over the weekend.
Aunty Peace, as she is fondly called by her close friends, pleaded with Nigerians to shun violence for the sake of the country.
She wrote; "Dear Nigerians, my sincere
advice here is if the deadliest civil war breaks out, all of us ranting here APC and PDP, you and i will be refugees in Benin Republic and other countries if we survive it.
“Note that the elites you are fighting for on social media will survive with their families, and they will still sit at a peace accord meeting somewhere in Ghana, South Africa or the U.N to still decide your fate and fly back their families with their private jets to continue using those who survived.
“If i may ask, where are their children? They are all abroad in safe keeping. Nigerian youths, listen and listen good, we have only one Nigeria, what the radio did to Rwanda is what social media is doing to Nigeria now. We are all pushing Nigeria to war. There will be no winners or losers!
“Nigerians, you and i will lose at last. God forbids such happens, all of us here might not be alive to tell the story but i bet you, all the elites and their children will be alive to tell the story. You and i don't own oil wells and private jets, then what are we fighting for? They want you to be counted as casualties so there would be a case. Please say no to violence! If GEJ wins he won’t feed his village. If Buhari wins, he won’t feed his village, and nothing will change, there is no time a government will solve all your problems.

Controversial Nigerian actress, Afrocandy, has expressed her decision to stay away from Nigeria if former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, is declared winner of the presidential election held over the weekend.
The actress observed that the poll has been more of tribal sentiments than choice of the people.
She noted that those from northern Nigerian have thrown support for their own, while accusing those from the south of being divided. Afrocandy said if Buhari wins the election, he will turn his back on southerners.

Police IG Urges Voters: “Cast Your Vote And Leave”

The Inspector-General of Police,SuleimanAbba, has advised voters to leave the polling units after casting their votes in the upcoming general elections.Abba gave the advice at a National Stakeholders Summit on
the elections organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja on Wednesday.He said it was important for voters to cast their vote and go home in order not to commit any electoral offence.“This advice that I am giving is resulting from what I observed in the provisions of section 129 of the Electoral Act. Nine different types of offences are listed there in and if you stay back, there is likelihood of you committing one of those offences,’’he said.The offences, according to him, include canvassing or soliciting for vote, persuading a voter not to vote for a particular candidate or not to vote.He said that other electoral offences included possession of any weapon.The IGP pledged that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies,would provide security for all polling units and 9,000 collation centres across the country.“In order to also make INEC officials and their materials secure, we have identified almost 900 INEC offices nationwide, mindful of the fact that security of the materials is important,’’ he said..He added that security agencies were alsoworking to ensure that streets and homes were protected during the elections.On the deployment of soldiers for the elections, the police boss noted that the military would be deployed to play supportive role as stated in the Constitution.Abba advised INEC to guard against late commencement of elections and rigging so as to ease security agencies’ effort at maintaining peace on elections days.“Where election rigging occurs, it may be a threat to conduct of peaceful elections,’’he said.He warned politicians against recruitment of thugs and advised them to exercise high sense of reasoning in instructing their followers.“Whatever is the outcome of the elections should be accepted by you; if rejected, follow the legal procedure,’’ he advised.He said that in carrying out their duties, security personnel would be mindful of and respect human rights.On his part, the Chairman of INEC,Attahiru Jega,said that the commission had taken measures to improve transparency and credibility of the process of collation of results.“Hard copies of result sheets from polling units would be scanned, converted to PDFformat and put in a database, which wouldbe made available for viewing and download via the INEC website. Every voter or stakeholder will be able to confirmthe accuracy of results from the polling units, which have been conveyed to the collation centres,’’ Jega explained.He added that not less than 82 percent of the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) had been distributed nationwide.
