WICKEDNESS : How A young Baby was Sold For N150k By Mother and Doctor caught by the Police

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recovered a baby boy, David Johnny, who was stolen by a doctor with the connivance of his mother, Esther Johnny, and sold to a woman in Abuja.
It was learnt that the mother initially denied knowledge of the crime as the police intensified efforts to unravel the whereabouts of the baby.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, Akwa Ibom State, Mike Okoli, said this in Uyo on Tuesday.
He stated that when the police apprehended the doctor, he tried to frustrate police investigation into the matter.
He added that the police had to tell the doctor that they would charge him to court for child kidnapping if he failed to produce the missing child.
The CP said, "The police in Akwa Ibom State have rescued a baby boy, David Johnny, who was stolen when he was three-day-old and handed over to a doctor in Port Harcourt. The baby was subsequently taken to Abuja.
"When we found the doctor, he refused to cooperate as he tried to frustrate the efforts of the police in investigating the case of the stolen boy.
"My officers in the trafficking department moved from Uyo to Port Harcourt, Umuahia, and Aba in search of the stolen child.
"It was not until Wednesday, April 22, when the pressure became so much, that the woman who had bought the child, took the child back to the clinic in Port Harcourt, where she bought him, and abandoned him there," he said.
According to him it was the phone call the woman, who had bought the child, made to the doctor who was in the police custody in Uyo that enabled them to trace the baby to the hospital.
He said, "The biological mother sold the child through the doctor to the woman for N300,000."
Esther, 18, said David was her third baby and she could not take care of all of her children.
She said she was given N150,000 from the proceeds from the sale of her baby.

Floyd Mayweather has run away with the ‘fight of the century’, beating #MannyPacquiao on points after the fight the world has been waiting for went the whole distance in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao, as expected, threw more punches than his opponent, in the 12 rounds, often taking the fight to his opponent. But #Mayweather was able to dance his way out of trouble while doing enough damage with his straight punches to convince the judges.
The American took the contest 118-110, 116-112, 116-112. But the crowd at the MGM Arena booed the decision.

CHECK OUT : steph nora okere reveals reason for failed marriag.

"My family did not support marrying a man who kept one woman in one place and plans keeping another one in another place. I attend Catholic church and the marriage process in Catholic begins with the intended couples tendering a marriage certificate issued by a court to the church. This was the main reason we were in court in the first place," she said.
She disclosed that the trouble on-going in AGN is based more on the personal interests of the person involved and the money that the government has given to the industry which has been mismanaged by the administration.
"Crisis in AGN is quite embarrassing and disheartening. Actors are supposed to understand human psychology better. Actors serve as mirror to the society but we are finding it difficult to maintain peace among ourselves.
"Things took another turn when artists began to get money from the government and politicians. In a nutshell, AGN crisis began when money was placed over artists’ welfare."
Also, she revealed why there are many unmarried actresses in the industry.
"I joined the industry when I was 21 and a graduate. Perhaps it did but I did not just notice. It is possible a suitor was somewhere eyeing me but did not show up because of my profession. I was too engrossed in my career that I did not encounter one but there would have been someone like that," she added.

When Steph Nora Okere came into Nollywood, the beautiful and young actress shot to the top with her effortless and skillful interpretations of her roles, winning many loyal fans, but many industry watchers have wondered where she is.
She sat down to answer questions in a recent interview with Vanguard about issues that bothers on the on-going crisis in Actors' Guild of Nigeria, AGN, and reasons why some actresses remain single in Nollywood.
When asked about her failed marriage to actor and producer, Lanre Falana, she said the marriage did not happen because of the failure on his part to fulfill the mandatory marital requirements on her.
"I was never married but I was involved in a marriage process which got truncated along the line. Marriage begins with paying the woman’s dowry, traditional and white wedding. All these did not take place.

NAIJA_FUEL SCARCITY: TWO COPS DETAINED IN ONDO

news

It was like a drama in Akure, the Ondo state capital, when two mobile policemen were lockedup at a filling station in the capital city over attempt at assaulting the petrol attendants on duty last Thursday for several minutes.
According to the owner of the filling station, Mr. Tope Omileye, of MRS filling station along the popular Oba Adesida road in the town, the two policemen in uniformed armed came to the filling station demanding to buy fuel, when the attendants on duty explained that the station had not gotten stock for over a long period of time, only for the police officers to start beating the attendants for not providing fuel for them.
Omoleye added that it was a life surprise for the female attendant, who narrated the matter to her boss as the two policemen pounced on her, giving her a horrible beaten, dragged her on the floor to the toilet, as her skirt was torn to shreds.
The lady that was later rushed to an hospital for medical attention, as the whole office of the filling station was disorganized, and doors broken by the policemen as was alleged by the owner of the filling station.
It was however gathered that in the process the two police men were beaten and doing all sorts to the lady at the toilet, that the other attendants with the support of the teeming crowd quickly locked the gate of the office of the filling station against the policemen, before a signal was sent to the nearest police station and they were later taken to the police station for further interrogation and action by the police authority.
When contacted on the matter, the state Police Public Relations Officer, for the command, Mr. Wole Ogodo said he has not been briefed about the incident.

MUST READ: 8 Things You Didn’t Understand About Sugar

Sugar certainly has gotten a bad rap lately. It’s blamed for everything from obesity and diabetes to heart disease, kidney disease and stroke. But is it really all that bad? Is there nothing redeeming about those tiny, sweet granules? Or is a lot of what we hear misinformation?
sugar
We know one thing for sure. Sugar consumption has skyrocketed. Most people obtain 16 percent of their total calories from added sugars, namely soda, energy and sports drinks, grain-based desserts, sugar-sweetened fruit drinks, dairy-based desserts and candy. The World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommendation? We should only be getting less than 10 percent of our daily calories from added sugar. In 2014, the WHO even proposed slashing that recommended rate to less than 5 percent.
Clearly, we need to pay attention to sugar and our consumption rate. But first, we need to learn the truth about our favorite sweetener.

8 Myths About Sugar

  • Sugar is an addictive substance

Sugar is actually an addictive substance. Animal studies show sugar consumption causes bingeing, withdrawal and craving. Regularly eating sugar also makes it easier to become addicted to another drug. When humans were studied, consuming fructose (a form of sugar) caused the brain’s reward center to light up. Additional research shows sugar and sweetness can actually be more addictive, rewarding and attractive than drugs such as cocaine. Seems a bit preposterous, but a possible explanation, say scientists, is humankind’s past evolutionary need to eat foods high in calories and sugar  Another problem is that sugar is added to more products than you might think – it’s in ketchup, instant oatmeal and spaghetti sauce, for starters.
  • Added Sugar is Actually Bad

Added sugars are particularly worrisome. Added sugars are sugars or syrups that are tossed into our food and drink during processing or preparation. They can be natural (e.g., honey) or chemically manufactured (e.g., high fructose corn syrup). They’re troubling because they don’t provide any nutrients — just excessive calories. And they’re in more products than you might think. Yet you don’t have to nix all added sugar from your diet. Sugar may not have any nutritional value, but it can enhance the flavor of foods that do provide important nutrients, such as whole-grain cereal or yogurt. So if sprinkling some sugar over a cup of healthy, plain yogurt is the only way you’ll eat the yogurt, it’s worth it to add the sweetness. It’s better to buy the no-added-sugar version of the product and add a little sugar than to buy the “regular” or fully sweetened version.
  • Artificial Sweeteners are Healthier than Sugar

Many health-conscious people favor artificial sweeteners for their food, figuring they’re a better bet because they don’t contain any calories. It’s true you’re avoiding calories when you stick with artificial sweeteners.
  • Sugar-free Diets Are The Best

So we eat too much sugar. And artificial sweeteners or other forms of the sweet stuff, like raw sugar, aren’t any better than plain old table sugar. So maybe the answer is simply to cut all sugar out of our diets. Perhaps. But that is a complicated plan. Technically, if you were able to eliminate all sugar from your diet — meaning eating solely foods where no sugar was added during its creation or afterward — that might be the healthiest option.
  • Eat Less Sugary Fruits?

There’s no denying it, fruit contains sugar. A lot of it. Think of biting into a fresh, juicy peach or pear, and all of that sweet juice exploding in your mouth (or dribbling down your chin). Is it really so bad for you? No. True, there’s a lot of sugar in fruit. But it’s natural sugar, or fructose, which is far healthier than added sugar. Fructose isn’t the only thing you’ll find in that peach or pear, though. Fruit is also filled with fiber, antioxidants, vitamins and other nutrients that are great for your body, helping it fight disease, stabilize your blood sugar and more. Fruit is also considered a low-density food, which means it makes you feel full and satisfied. This is a positive, because if you’re satiated, you won’t eat too much fruit, nor will you be tempted to start noshing on something else that might not be nearly as healthy (say, a chewy chocolate chip cookie). So load up on fruit with no worries
  • Sugar Causes Diabetes?

One of the more prevalent sugar myths is that it causes diabetes. This misconception likely occurs because diabetics’ blood sugar levels are often out of whack, so they have to watch their sugar intake. But in general, there is no direct cause and effect between sugar consumption and the development of diabetes.
  • Sugar Causes Hyperactivity?

There have been extensive studies about the relationship between sugar and hyperactivity, and no link has been found between the two
  • Sugar Causes Tooth decay

If your teeth come in contact with sugary foods and drinks, decay can result. But that’s only if those sugary substances sit on your teeth for a long time. Further, your teeth can also be damaged if all sorts of other foods are in contact with them for prolonged periods — fruit, for example, or bread or oatmeal. To prevent tooth decay, then, it’s best to brush your teeth after eating. Even rinsing your mouth with water can help. If you’ve eaten foods that can easily get stuck in your teeth, like raisins, dry cereal, popcorn or raspberries, a thorough job of brushing, flossing and rinsing your teeth is critical.

MUST READ : Home Remedies For High Blood Pressure

The only remedy you can do at home for hypertension is adjusting your diet. The food you eat can significantly affect your blood chemistry and blood pressure. Fortunately, a diet that’s good for your heart doesn’t have to be agony for your taste buds.
antioxidants
Here are some suggestions for making the right food choices for high blood pressure:

The DASH

Research supported by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute led to the development of an eating plan that can prevent and help treat high blood pressure.
The eating plan, known as the DASH — named after a key study called Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension — is low in saturated fat, cholesterol, and total fat and emphasizes fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy foods. It also includes whole-grain products, fish, poultry, and nuts, and it limits meat, sweets, and sugary beverages. This makes for a diet rich in magnesium, potassium, and calcium, as well as protein and fiber — a winning combination for lowering blood pressure.
Read: High Blood Pressure; All You Need To Know

Cut back on salt

Research using the DASH diet and different levels of dietary sodium confirmed what has been advised for many years — reducing dietary sodium and salt can help lower blood pressure. Some people, such as African and the elderly, are especially sensitive to salt and sodium and should be particularly careful about how much they consume. Being sensitive to salt (or sodium) means you have a tendency to retain fluid when you take in too much salt, probably because of a defect in your kidneys’ ability to get rid of sodium. Your body tries to dilute the sodium in the blood by conserving fluids. This forces your blood vessels to work extra hard to circulate the additional blood volume.

Increase dietary potassium

Some people who have hypertension take thiazide diuretics that cause a loss of potassium, so they are told to eat a banana each day to replace it. But researchers now think extra potassium may be a good idea for everyone. Not only do we eat too much sodium, we take in too little potassium. It’s the balance between sodium and potassium that is thought to be important to blood pressure.Don’t run out to buy potassium supplements, however. That could be dangerous. Both too much and too little potassium can trigger a heart attack. Stick to foods high in potassium to be safe; foods rich in potassium include bananas, oranges, potatoes, tomatoes, and milk.Note: If you have been diagnosed with high blood pressure and are taking a potassium-sparing diuretic (ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure) or if you have kidney disease, first ask your doctor whether you need extra potassium.

Take calcium

Your heart needs calcium to maintain its proper rhythm, and your kidneys need calcium to regulate your body’s sodium/water balance. Research has shown, however, that people who have high blood pressure generally don’t get enough dietary calcium. Other studies confirm that getting extra calcium can actually lower blood pressure. But that effect is not necessarily seen with calcium supplements. Rely, instead, on foods that are rich in calcium.

Garlic is Good

Numerous researchers have pointed to garlic’s ability to lower blood pressure. It also makes a fabulous flavor replacement when you’re cutting back on salt.

Fruits and vegetables must Be Your Friend

Vegetarians have a much lower incidence of high blood pressure. You, too, can benefit from this approach without becoming a vegetarian. Gradually increase your daily servings by sneaking in an extra serving or two at each meal. You will likely be eating less fat, more fiber, less salt, and more potassium — and you’ll probably lose weight. Those benefits will help lower your blood pressure.

Leave you Coffee

Caffeine does not appear to be associated with hypertension. While it can raise your blood pressure temporarily, your body adapts to the caffeine level if you routinely drink a certain amount of coffee, tea, or cola every day, and your blood pressure is no longer affected by that amount.

Low Blood Pressure; You Need To Read This!

Low blood pressure, also called hypotension, is blood pressure low enough that the flow of blood to the organs of the body is inadequate and the low blood flow may lead the body to go into shock.  Low pressure alone, without symptoms or signs, usually is not unhealthy.
low pressure
For some people, low blood pressure can signal an underlying problem, especially when it drops suddenly or is accompanied by signs and symptoms such as:
  • Dizziness
  • Fainting
  • Lack of concentration
  • Blurred vision
  • Nausea
  • Cold, clammy, pale skin
  • Rapid, shallow breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Thirst
In some situations, low blood pressure isn’t serious. If you have consistently low readings but feel fine, your doctor is likely to monitor you during routine exams. Even occasional dizziness may be a relatively minor problem — the result of mild dehydration from too much time in the sun or a hot tub, for example. In these situations, it’s not a matter so much of how far, but of how quickly, your blood pressure drops. Still, it’s important to see your doctor if you experience any signs or symptoms of hypotension because they sometimes can point to more-serious problems. It can be helpful to keep a record of your symptoms, when they occur and what you were doing at the time.

Risk Factors

Low blood pressure (hypotension) can occur in anyone, though certain types of low blood pressure are more common depending on your age or other factors:
  • Age

Drops in blood pressure on standing or after eating occur primarily in adults older than 65years.  Orthostatic, or postural, hypotension happens after standing up, while postprandial hypotension happens after eating a meal. Neurally mediated hypotension happens as a result of a miscommunication between the brain and heart. It primarily affects children and younger adults.
  • Medications

People who take certain medications, such as high blood pressure medications like alpha blockers, have a greater risk of low blood pressure.
  • Certain diseases

Parkinson’s disease, diabetes and some heart conditions put you at a greater risk of developing low blood pressure.

Causes Of Low Blood Pressure

Some medical conditions can cause low blood pressure. These include:
  • Pregnancy

Because a woman’s circulatory system expands rapidly during pregnancy, blood pressure is likely to drop. This is normal, and blood pressure usually returns to your pre-pregnancy level after you’ve given birth.
  • Heart problems

Some heart conditions that can lead to low blood pressure include extremely low heart rate (bradycardia), heart valve problems, heart attack and heart failure. These conditions may cause low blood pressure because they prevent your body from being able to circulate enough blood.
  • Endocrine problems

Thyroid conditions — such as parathyroid disease — adrenal insufficiency (Addison’s disease), low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and, in some cases, diabetes can trigger low blood pressure.
  • Dehydration

When you become dehydrated, your body loses more water than it takes in. Even mild dehydration can cause weakness, dizziness and fatigue. Fever, vomiting, severe diarrhea, overuse of diuretics and strenuous exercise can all lead to dehydration. Far more serious is hypovolemic shock, a life- threatening complication of dehydration. It occurs when low blood volume causes a sudden drop in blood pressure and a reduction in the amount of oxygen reaching your tissues. If untreated, severe hypovolemic shock can cause death within a few minutes or hours.
  • Blood loss
Losing a lot of blood from a major injury or internal bleeding reduces the amount of blood in your body, leading to a severe drop in blood pressure.
  • Severe infection (septicemia)

Septicemia can happen when an infection in the body enters the bloodstream. This condition can lead to a life- threatening drop in blood pressure called septic shock.
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)

Anaphylaxis is a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. Common triggers of anaphylaxis include foods, certain medications, insect venoms and latex. Anaphylaxis can cause breathing problems, hives, itching, a swollen throat and a drop in blood pressure.
  • Lack of nutritious diet

A lack of the vitamins B-12 and folate can cause a condition in which your body doesn’t produce enough red blood cells (anemia), causing low blood pressure.

Medications that can cause low blood pressure

Some medications you may take can also cause low blood pressure, including:
  • Diuretics (water pills), such as furosemide (Lasix) and hydrochlorothiazide (Microzide, Oretic)
  • Alpha blockers, such as prazosin (Minipress) and labetalol
  • Beta blockers, such as atenolol (Tenormin), propranolol (Inderal, Innopran XL, others) and timolol
  • Drugs for Parkinson’s disease, such as pramipexole (Mirapex) or those containing levodopa
  • Certain types of antidepressants (tricyclic antidepressants), including doxepin (Silenor), imipramine (Tofranil), protriptyline (Vivactil) and trimipramine (Surmontil)
  • Sildenafil (Viagra) or tadalafil (Cialis), particularly in combination with the heart medication nitroglycerin

MUST KNOW ; Ways To Whiten Your Teeth Naturally

Whiter teeth, like every other good thing in life is something that most people in our cosmetically driven world desire to have. Whiter teeth, like every other good thing in life is something that most people in our cosmetically driven world desire to have. I still recommend you go see your dentist occasionally for teeth cleaning, plaque extraction and polishing. Some people have very sensitive teeth while others cannot afford the cost of these services.
Teeth
This is why I am sharing with you various natural ways we can use to whiten your teeth.  With a bit of patience, I think we can naturally restore whiteness to our teeth. They may not get to be scary white like the milk teeth of babies, but they’ll appear more like you took good care of your pretty pearly whites rather than just bleaching them like crazy.

Natural Ways of Whitening the Teeth

  • Baking Soda

Baking-soda
The use of baking soda to whiten the teeth has been in existence for a long time now. It is very simple to use. Make a paste with the baking soda using water or lemon juice. Brush your teeth as you normally do with this paste.Make sure you wash your teeth thoroughly after use. Baking soda is acidic and so it bleaches the enamel thereby restoring the natural white colour.
  • Strawberry

strawberry
Strawberries are high in Vitamin C, which can help in breaking down plaque that is causing your teeth to look brown. It also has an enzyme called malic acid, which may help to remove surface stains. You can add it to baking soda to form a paste. Brush your teeth twice daily with it.
  • Lemon or Orange peels

lemon
There have been reports that lemon and or orange peels will also do the trick of whitening your teeth. Guess you don’t know until you try.  Here again, these food products are very healthy and good for your stomach but the acid content might eventually wear away the enamel on the teeth. So if you use lemon or orange peel always rinse afterwards to be on the safe side.

news
A 32-year-old Lebanese, Amira Abdallahi, along with five other suspects, have been arrested by the police for alleged robberies and frauds totalling N20m in different parts of Lagos and Abuja.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspects - Princewill Eze, 55; Daniel Okpara, 30; Paul Irior, 37; Bassey Ekpenyong, 39; Royal Nwabuike, 32; and the Lebanese - disguised as officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and wore the commission's branded vests.
It was gathered that they allegedly defrauded some Bureau de Change outlets in Lagos with the vests.
Our correspondent learnt that Eze, who is said to be the gang leader, was arrested by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the state command on February 27 in the VGC, Ajah area of Lagos.
Eze's confessions, it was gathered, led to the arrest of the Lebanese woman and other gang members.
Items said to have been recovered from the gang included six Toyota vehicles, one single-barrelled pistol with four cartridges and a Bryco pistol with six rounds of 5.56mm ammunition.
The police also recovered N4m and $13, 000 from the gang.
During a parade on Wednesday, Abdallahi, whose father is a Lebanese and mother from Ishan, Edo State, said she joined the gang in 2014, and had done six deals with them where she realised about N10m.
She said, "I was born in Nigeria and I grew up in Lagos. I stay in Lekki area with my family. I am married with five daughters. The first money I got from the deals was $5,000. I could not stop because the money was tempting.
"I was formerly doing interior decorations work. That was how I met Eze, who is nicknamed Senator. I did some interior design jobs for him in a hotel he owned. That was around March 2014.
"I had done about six deals with the gang. My role is just to talk on phone with our would-be victims. They think I am a foreigner, and they are willing to trust us. I have made about N10m so far, but all the accounts have been drained now. I handed everything over to the police."
Eze, the gang leader, from Nkanu, Enugu State, said, "Before we rob our victims, we usually tell them that we want to purchase dollars, but we know most of them do not have an operating licence. So, we will pretend to be officials of the EFCC, and we will harass them for not having a licence. Later, we will ask them to pay a fine.
"They will bring the money to us in convenient places like hotels and banks. I was formerly a businessman. I also run a hotel. It is about five years now that we started this project. I was arrested by the police four years ago for a similar issue, but I was granted bail by the court.
"The police walkie-talkie and other gadgets recovered from me were obtained during the Anambra elections. I was not into politics, but I was part of that election."
The state Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti, said the command would continue to ensure that criminals did not have a hideout in Lagos, adding that efforts were ongoing to get the remaining gang member.
He said, "We have recovered several items which the suspects procured with the proceeds of their robbery escapades. Eze, the ring leader, built a hotel in Edo, while other members also have houses in Delta, Ogun and Lagos states.
"Serious efforts are on to arrest the only gang member at large.
"The command assures residents of Lagos that it always has arrangements to ensure safety of lives and property."
